Heading to the Gateshead shipping container village? It could be about to stay open for longer
The Plaza Garden has 30 shipping containers creatively arranged creating open-space walkways that are airy and inviting. The Main Urban Garden has 60 stacked shipping containers to represent a walled garden. The village houses shops, galleries, cafes, food outlets and start-up businesses. It opens on Sunday 1st July 2018, coinciding with the start of the Great Exhibition of the North.
A leisure has invested £1.5m redeveloping the area of land beneath Tyne Bridge in Gateshead, with aptly named By The River Brew Co at the heart of the development. A number of foodie firms have committed to the market, including seafood firm Oktopus, Spanish food specialists Kaltur, Indian restaurant Dabbawal and Lola Jeans. The Backyard Bike Shop will also open in one of the units, serving coffee in the day and becoming a cocktail bar at night.
The development in Gateshead will create around 100 new jobs. Locals and developers are predicting it will a popular destination for shoppers and foodies alike. The venue will be open from 10am to 10pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Gateshead Council may extend the opening hours from 9am to 12.30am everyday.
