This recycled shipping container once travelled the worlds oceans, today its the latest Schmatz beer stand
Situated close to Tokyo’s Dome baseball stadium it’s in a perfect location to serve beer and comfort food to fans. Much of the original shipping containers exterior remains so the designers (I IN Inc.) have retained its industrial appearance, painted and branding in Schwartz colours. However once you are inside it feels warm and inviting. This is because the walls and the floors are decorated with wooden oak panels and ties in with the wooden bar and its stools.
Schwartz opened their first bar in 2014. Schwartz was founded by three young German beer fans, with a view share their country’s beers and sausages with Tokyo, Japan and the rest of the world. So they brew their own German classic beers and serve with German and Japanese comfort food. The moment you go through the door of one of their bars they want you to feel comfortable and at ease.
The Iterior
With its cosy interior, the designers and builders have excelled. The design is en-vogue. Borrowed from traditional German beer stands we think its a fabulous example of what can be done. Copper, glass and timber combine to create a contemporary feel to the space.
The bar has a sporty theme in keeping with the nearby sports stadium. A deliberate decision by the designers, executed well. Ultimately the beer is the star of the show. The recycled shipping container is the beers stage.
Large windows and gallery lights make the small interior feel deceptively bigger. As a result, customers are able to look in through the windows before they enter. So the can also be used for beer pick-ups when no seats are available on the inside.

We used a mirror to make the inside space look as big as possible, I really like the complex shape with the very rough, wood background.

We tried to make a strong advertisement for it from outside, with the luminous spherical beer servers…
